Monastero was in power during the 1920's and had interests in bootlegging rackets and gambling rackets. His younger brother Salvatore served as his underboss. In the mid 1920's he briefly lost his territory to Luigi Lamendola, who was an castoff of Al Capone's gang back in Chciago. But on May 20, 1927 he was shot to dead. In 1929 Monastero was murdered together with his brother as they were visiting a family member in the hospital. Joseph Siragusa became Pittsburghs new boss. Siragusa was murdered 3 days after the murder of Salvatore Maranzano in 1931.
