James 'Little Jimmy' Marcello is a member of the Chicago Outfit and was the acting boss for John DiFronzo and Joseph Lombardo from 2003 till 2007. His family has a history in the Mafia, his uncle, cousin and brother-in-law are all members of the Outfit.

In December 1992 Marcello was charged with racketeering together with boss Samuel Carlisi. During that time Marcello was reputed to be the underboss of Carlisi. In December 1993 they were convicted on racketeering charges. In 1995 he was sentenced to 12,5 years in prison. During his sentencing he told US district Paul Plunkett "If my name wasn’t James Marcello, I wouldn’t be standing in front of you. That’s all I have to say". He was released in 2003.

Only 2 years after being free he was again indicted in April, 2005, for murder and racketeering charges. Marcello was accused of killing Nicholas D’Andrea in 1981, attempting to kill Nicholas Sarillo, Sr. in 1982, and murdering brothers Anthony "Tony the Ant" Spilotro and Michael Spilotro in 1986. Untill his indictment he ran the Cicero section, once headquarters of Al Capone, for the Outfit with his brother Micheal. In June 2007 the so-called "Family Secrets" trial began in Chicago. In September he was convicted of racketeering and the murders of the Spilotro brothers. According to news reports Marcello winked at his family members when hearing the verdict and even kissed his attorney. On February 5, 2009, Marcello was sentenced to life for racketeering and murder.
