Birth: 1941

Death: /

Daniel "The Lion" Leo was the acting boss of the Genovese Family from 2005 until 2010.

Daniel Leo was born in 1941 in New York. During the 1970's he was a member of the Harlem based Purple Gang, a gang which consisted out of thugs and drugdealers with connections to the Genovese and Lucchese family. Under boss Vincent Gigante he rose inside the organization as a low profile gangster but with a growing amount of influence.

In 1980 Leo was arrested for refusing to testify before a grand jury that was investigating loansharking, drug trafficking, and four murders. His sentence however was upheld and he spent no time in prison. In 1999 the FBI overheared capo Salvatore "Sammy Meatballs" Aparo saying that Leo was the one present at induction ceremonies for new made men and that he was the one leading the ceremonie. Leo was close to Vincent Gigante and his brother Mario. When Gigante died in 2005 the spot for leadership was open and it is believed that from then on Leo became the acting boss. According to several sources a few men were possible heirs to the throne including Leo, Matthew Ianniello, Venero Mangano and Jersey boss Tino Fiuamara.

In 2007 Leo and his cousin Joseph were convicted for extortion and were sentenced to respectively 60 months and 46 months in jail. On January 10, 2010, Leo pleaded guilty to new racketeering charges and was sentenced to another 18 months.
